Isla Vista School is one of ten neighborhood elementary schools in the Goleta Union School District. Our school is located in the unique unincorporated Santa Barbara County community of Isla Vista, near the University of California at Santa Barbara (UCSB). We serve a population of approximately 516 students, preschool through sixth grade. We also proudly integrate a specialized program for children with autism into our school community. Isla Vista school is a California Distinguished School and a Title I Academic Achievement Award winner.
Isla Vista Elementary School hosts a diverse population of students and families. We take pride and celebrate the fact that over twenty-five cultures and languages are represented amongst our students and families.
In addition to a rigorous curriculum focused on the California State and Common Core standards in all core subjects, students attend classes in music, art, technology, physical education. Students also participate in guided science instruction in our school garden and visit our school library media center. We benefit from terrific parent and community involvement at Isla Vista Elementary School. Many parents, community volunteers, and UCSB students volunteer on our campus daily supporting our students both in the classroom as well as facilitating games and activities during outside play. Our PTA and ELAC parent groups also support our students through fundraising and leadership committed to enriching our students’ lives through opportunities such as field trips, enrichment specialist teachers, camp experiences in fourth through sixth grade, and supporting technology development in our school.
Isla Vista Elementary School is also a member of THRIVE Isla Vista, a public-private collaborative focused on preparing children for school readiness through a variety of integrated services to families beginning prenatally.
Students at Isla Vista Elementary School have many opportunities to participate in support and enrichment activities beyond the school day. We operate a before and after-school program beginning at 6:45am and closing at 6:00pm. We have a morning homework club, after school tutoring, and other enrichment classes available including Robotics, Drama, Spanish, Tennis, Karate, Art, Instrumental Music, Track & Field, Yearbook, Student Council, and Book Clubs. We also have noon-leagues in soccer, basketball, cross-country, and flag football for students in fourth through sixth grade.
Isla Vista Elementary School is a vibrant, joyful, inclusive school community where all students are supported and encouraged to learn, investigate, problem-solve, create, and develop positive social skills in order to become productive and global-minded citizens of tomorrow. We love Isla Vista School!
