An exciting collaboration between UCSB’s Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara project, the Isla Vista Youth Project (IVYP) and the Goleta Union School District brought the International music project, Entre Mujeres to two performances at Isla Vista School on Friday, September 21.
The group first performed at a gathering of parents who are attending ESL classes three days a week at the facility located on the campus of Isla Vista School. More than 20 parents of children residing in the Isla Vista area come to morning classes three times a week to learn English. The performers of Entre Mujeres joined the class on Friday morning for an informal performance. Parents in the class prepared and shared lunch with the musicians and representatives from UCSB, IVYP and GUSD.
As part of the Viva el Arte de Santa Barbara project the group presents three free programs throughout the county. On Friday night, the first full concert program was presented at Isla Vista School. This evening (Saturday, Sepember 22) the performers will present a concert in Guadalupe and a Sunday performance at the Marjorie Luke Theater at Santa Barbara Junior High School. All performances are free.
The 2012-13 season of ¡Viva el Arte de Santa Bárbara! continues with four more residencies: Troker, October 11-14, 2012; Ballet Hispanico, January 7-13, 2013; Mariachi Sol de Mexico®, February 7-10, 2013; and Los Texmaniacs, April 4-7, 2013.
