El Camino Principal, Liz Barnitz, among Goleta’s Finest

The 64th annual Goleta’s Finest Community Awards were handed out to individuals, businesses and nonprofit organizations selected by the Goleta Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“It is our Academy Awards of Goleta,” said Kristen Miller, chamber president and CEO. The winners, chosen from nominees by a committee and approved by the chamber’s board of directors, were announced last month.

Among the honorees for 2013 is Liz Barnitz, principal of El Camino School, who was named K-12 Educator of the Year. In her acceptance remarks, Ms. Barnitz acknowledged her selection as the result of the outstanding work done every day at El Camino by the teachers and staff. El Camino School, a certified “No Excuses University” school, was the only program improvement school in Santa Barbara County to meet all Federal Accountability standards for the 2012-2013 school year.
