At the February 5, 2014 Board meeting, Goleta Union School Board Member Pam Kinsley announced she would resign from the Board effective March 1, 2014 for personal reasons. Applications were received from six qualified individuals seeking to fill Ms. Kinsley term which expires on December 5, 2014.
On Monday, March 31, 2014 the Board of Trustees held a special meeting to interview prospective board members. Luz Reyes-Martin was appointed to fill the vacancy created by Ms. Kinsley. Mrs. Reyes-Martin took her Oath of Office at the April 9, 2014 Board meeting.
Unless a petition calling for a special election, containing sufficient number of signatures, is filed with the county superintendent of schools within thirty days of the date of the appointment, the appointment shall become effective. If a petition is filed, the county superintendent of schools has thirty days in which to verify the signatures. If the petition is determined to be legal, the provisional appointment is terminated and the county superintendent of schools shall call a special election to be conducted no later than the 130th day after the determination (EC§ 5091).
