On Monday morning, March 31, the GUSD Board of Trustees interviewed six qualified candidates and appointed Luz Reyes-Martin to fill a seat left vacant by the resignation of Pam Kinsley at the beginning of March. Reyes-Martin, who is employed as a Management Analyst for the City of Goleta’s Neighborhood Services and Public Safety department, will be sworn in at the Board’s next regular meeting, to be held at the GUSD Board Room at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.
According to a quote in Noozhawk, Reyes-Martin commented in an e-mail about her appointment by stating, “I am honored to serve as a board member for the Goleta Union School District. I am very thankful to the board and the district staff for a process that really made each candidate think about their role and the priorities of the district. I think the board had a tough decision since all applicants were qualified. I am excited about the appointment and ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work.”
Board members were impressed with the qualities of all the candidates they interviewed and encouraged applicants who were not selected to remain involved in school and district programs, activities and organizations. Candidates were also encouraged to consider running for one of three seats open in this November’s election. Board member Valerie Kushnerov has announced that she will not be seeking reelection.
