Superintendent of Goleta Union School District (GUSD), Donna Lewis, announced two extraordinary employees as the 2020 GUSD Employees of the Year at the regular scheduled GUSD Board Meeting on May 6, 2020. Dr. Lewis said she is pleased to honor these outstanding and talented individuals who have made a great impact in their schools and communities.
“These incredible members of our educational community receive this honor for their focus, drive, and determination to maximize academic, intellectual, and personal growth in order for each GUSD student to prosper in, and positively influence, a diverse and dynamic world,” she said. “They are not only wonderful representatives for our District, but they also make profound differences in the lives of our students and our communities.”
The 2020 GUSD Employees of the Year are:
Classified Employee of the Year: Maki Ling, who is a Computer/Electronics Technician in our Information Technology Department. Maki Ling, a proven team player, is a valuable and reliable member of a small department with many competing demands on his time, always with a positive attitude and pleasant demeanor.
Certificated Employee of the Year: Kristina Munoz, who is the Learning Center Teacher at Hollister Elementary School, consistently supports teachers and students on her site by filling each minute of the day teaching student intervention groups, supporting teachers, or gathering, analyzing, and sharing data. State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond, has said, “Great teachers are the core of a great educational system. Yes, teaching changes the lives of individual students, but beyond that, teachers show us all that all children can achieve, no matter who they are.” Ms. Munoz clearly exemplifies this sentiment.
Dr. Lewis said that these individuals are great ambassadors for our District.
